Could a bad LIM/head Gasket cause me to have the following problems:
- Elevated engine temp (not overheating just higher then normal temp of 200)
- Slipping tranny when engine is hot but only shifting from R to D or P to D
- Mysterious lose of coolant
- Really bad MPG

No. It's just dissapearing, no puddles and nothing in the engine of engine compartment. I have a feeling that the LIM is my problem and I am planning to start working on it this week.

Either the coolants leaking into the exhaust ,
or if the trans lines that go through the radiator are leaking, then coolant can go into the trans :yikes22:
See any thing redish floating in your resivour?
Hopfull for your sake, its going out the exhaust.

As long as the Felpros hav the metal rings(not plastic:nono:) around the water jackets, like the GM ones, they probly be fine.
GM does recomend you use thiers, but remember you get what you pay for.
To save money try and get the gasket kit , which has all the gaskets(valve cover, intakes,TB,EGR,etc), just my :2cents:
believe me, you dont want to do this lim job twice(or 3times) in one week

The new Fel-pro kit eliminates the plastic altogether. It is a steel, rubber gasket that is WAY better than the OEM gasket and comes in a kit with the valve cover gaskets as well.

Now that you mention it Rich, the last ones I put on my SE were the Felpro gaskets, they said OEM replacment . So far they hav held up good.
In the process of doing my GT right now(w/felpro's), still havnt gotten it back together, no time.
I missed drriving the SE anyways, its more FUN :)
Still contimplating headers or not.... be easier to install headers with it all a part.
Good Luck 78silverbird, just take your time, its not really as bad as a job as you might think.

Thank you all for the replies. I am planning on starting on it tomorrow afternoon. I got some detailed instructions on disassembly and assembly so I should be able to do it with no major problems.
