purge valve

my check engine light came on so we went to autozone and they said it was my purge valve so we replaced it....light's still on and they're not able to clear it so now they're telling me i have to take it in for a more thorough diagnosis.......any suggestions on what else could be causing this problem before i spend all that money? thanks

Can you give us the code they pulled?

What was the specific odb-ii DTC error code? Post it if you have it.

Have you checked the condition of the vacuum lines on it?

it says DTC P0171 System too Lean (bank 1), then it says MIL requested Since IGN NOT RUN Since Clear P/F

then the second one says DTC P0441, EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault

DTC P0171 means the PCM has detected a lean condition to the fuel injection system. It could be caused by the P0441 fault or maybe a part like the front 02 sensor. How old is the front 02 sensor?

P0441 indicates the PCM has detected a stuck open purge valve or there is a lack of engine vacuum to it. Have you checked the vacuum lines in and around the supercharger and throttle body? You might consider checking engine vacuum to see if it is in spec.

Could account for the lean code also, enough of a vacuum leak could push the fuel trim out of range.

That is correct Shep. That is why it is a good idea to run a vacuum test. Plus there are about a dozen other things that could cause P0171 but I don't want to confuse the poster, yet.....lol. :evillol:
