hey my friend wants to put on some nitrous, its an 1988 w/ 128,000 miles. willl he need to upgrade anything for 100shot of nitrous? whats the weekest link on this year of vette? will it be safe with a 100shot tuned properly on a dyno. and what about the miles? is that going to be safe with 120k?? tia

It's impossible to guess whether it will be ok or not....but i wouldn't do it. Nitrous is extremely hard on an engine's bottom end, and if everything is not perfect, or maybe even if it is, you run a pretty good risk of screwing something up. On a car with that many miles, If i just had to put nos on it, i'd go w/a 50 shot at the most.
But then again, i'm not a big fan of nos. It's just cheating to me. If you want to go fast and have some bragging rights, be a man and build you a good engine.

Nitrous is the cheapest way to make extra power. I don't see where a 100 shot would hurt anything if the tuning is done right. G.M. uses the best-of-the-best parts for the Corvettes anyway, so the entire drive line would be able to handle the extra umph. If there is a lean condition then things could start to melt really quickly, it would be safer to tune it a little on the rich side.
I wouldn't shoot a 150 or 200, that would be hard on pistons. Even forged pistons can handle a limited number of big nitrous cycles.
I have an 88 w/135K+ mile on the speedo. I installed an adjustable kit and haven't had any problems. I used the 100 pills and really like the added power. Now it runs like a Vette should run.
I retarded my timing by 5degs, installed a set of non-platinum plugs w/a heat range 2 steps colder and narrowed the gap to .035".
I have all the parts to build a small block 400 w/AFR heads and roller cam, swapping an engine on a Vette is not an easy task. I'll eventually assemble the engine and save it for future use. For now I'll just hit the button.
