Wasn't sure where to put this, so here it is.
I have a datalogger (OBDII Gauge) for the Palm and it works good. I was looking at pocket logger, but they want to charge you for a cable and the software and everything. I don't need the cable... I jsut need the program. Does anyone know how much that is just by itself? A little help here. Thanks!

The software is very easy to copy and distrubute, meaning the creator is not going to ever make any money on it. By making you get the cable they effectively put a license on it. DSMlink does the same thing. They offer the laptop software freely, and anyone can copy the eprom chip. The adapter is where they get you. Can't blame these guys for wanting to make some money ;) Either pay for the pocketlogger setup, or try one of the freeware loggers available out there on the internet.

The only one I can kind for free that'll work is OBD Gauge. That's what I use right now and it's good... but could be better. For one, it won't pull my CEL codes.

It's usually no coincidence that the freeware programs aren't as good as the ones you have to pay for :) The question to ask yourself is wether or not the cost of the better version is worth it. If it is, then pay up and git r dun. :) I seem to remember some free versions that were decent though. Tunerstien comes to mind. TMO is also free now, but thats for 1g only. A search on the national boards might turn up some more options.

I thought that the logging software was free... could you get a friend to just install it on your Palm?

If you mean for the pocketlogger, it's not free. And to bootleg a copy would be theft, and I don't agree with it for the pocketlogger any more than I do for DSMlink. Someone put a lot of time and effort into creating the software that makes DSMs so much more enjoyable/moddable/safe, they should get paid accordingly, IMO :)
