I have a 95 ford escort in the UK and when driving at a low speed the car just seems to either chugg or cut out. It doesnt happen all the time but is becoming more frequent. Its a 1400cc fuel injection. Any ideas what this could be?:banghead:

Could be a number of things... if plugs and wires are old, replace them. If they are new, make sure they are all connected well. I once knew someone with a stalling/lack of power problem and it turned out one of the plug wires was loose and he was only running on 3 cylinders.
Hmm... you may want to stop by a shop and have them test your alternator too... perhaps it isn't putting out enough at low speeds.

I was having the same problem when I found the rotor was almost completely melted, there must have been very little spark gettign to the engine. works good now.

Some vacuum leaks are more noticeable at low speeds.

It start with checking for a vacuum leak. There are hoses on top of the intake manifold... you should find them easy... check them out... including the one that is capped. There is a particular one that likes to crack on the back side... have a good look. Of course, it could be leaking from anywhere, but this is an easy place to look.
It is also easy enough to verify our plug wires are tight... I too caught myself running on 3 cylinders one time.
