haha foolish me? i solved the rough idle problem!

Long story short, i got rough idle due to a spark plug wire that was not connected to the spark plug. I plugged it back in, but now the SES is still on is this normal?

p.s If it was not this for this forums and all the great and helpful post, my truck would have never lasted this long, thank you all

haha, so for 2 days i got the SES and ruff idle. I was scared like nervouse chihuawa(typo, i know), thinking its gonna cost a fortune to fix. The engine was shaking and i felt it in the cabin. At every stop light i felt as if she would died on me and left me strained. I didn't know what was wrong, so i searched and i searched on the forum. I thought my EGR valve had to be cleaned, i thought coolant was leaking into the engine, i thought my distrubitor was crack, it thought the engine was toasted, i thought.....

I got scared sh?tless for two days until out of no where i thought....why don't i grab a flash light, pop the hood, and see whats wrong.
And the first thing i looked at was spark plug wires (as told on one of the post), un#$%?'n'believable, you #$%^'n'retard, i said to myself, one of the spark plug wire was unPLUGGED!!! haha, i went home gulped a shot Jamelson and lit up a cig, then procceeded to plug in spark plug wire.

started the car and smiled in relieve.

Go to autozone and they will check and remove the code for free.

That, or you can remove the negative terminal from the battery overnight and it will be cleared and the computer will be reset.

If this is an OBDII system, (1996 or newer) disconnecting the battery MIGHT turn the light off. It will not however, clear or reset the computer. Diagnostic Trouble Codes, (DTC'S) are burned into the memory, similar to mileage on the odometer, so that they may be retrieved by the technician in the event the computer loses power for any reason. The DTC'S will remain in memory until they are cleared and reset with an ODBII scan tool.

On paper, yes, this might be the "only" way, but both of my OBDII vehicles have been completely reset by removing the negative battery cable.

This has been referenced by the dealer and my own OBDII scanner.

The code will still be stored, you should get the codes removed and start the slate clean.

If you don't, the next time you have a problem and they scan it they will see this problem when it was something else.

Depending on the car , the battery would have to stay disconnected for a minimum of 24 hours . At least that is what my manual said for a jeep . May be the same for GM products OBD2 . Rob

GOOD looking out, i will def make a trip to auto zone, just so if the ses pops again in the future i won't be too confused and fix things that don't need to be fixed..Thanks

Hopefully you didn't drive to far/long that way, because all that unburnt fuel goes straight to the cat and it begins to destroy itself.
