2001 Discovery Towing Question

Hello:
Yesterday I purchased a 2001 Discovery SD. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a receiver hitch and I'm looking for one. I will be pulling a 3k pound boat/trailer combo. Does this car need additional oil & transmission coolers installed? With American SUVs a towing package typically incluces these additional coolers.
Thank You
Dan

for only 3k pounds i think that most of that stuff is overkill. your rig is rated for at least 5,000, maybe more. if you want to be on the safe side go with a tranny cooler, wouldnt hurt. but i think that the oil cooler will be overkill.
for a receiver hitch, you could always buy one from the dealer and get bent over the counter, or you could check with places like www.AtlanticBritish.com, www.RoversNorth.com, or buy all the parts you need from a junkyard. there is a yard near me that has some SII discos, i dunno if you have one.
good luck!

Atlanticbritish.com, roversnorth.com, and DAPenterprises.com all a good places to look for a hitch. The standard discovery class three hitch will do more than what you need for that boat. I have used mine tons of trailers will no problem. Also, you won't have to put cools and such on because you can just put it in third. This will keep the transmission from shifting so much and will protect it from over heating. The TOW button in GMCs does just this. You will burn a little more gas, but unless you are going 70 on the highway you can run in third. If that is the case and you are running fast, put it in drive cause the car wont be downshifting anyways at that speed.
