Aww man! This is such a classic TAURUS failure.
I have an inverter that powers my laptop for GPS (via USB), problem in tests finally in my car, I pulled the plug out, and the power wire is not not going to be connected.
Anyone know how to get down there in the ashtray (or behind the console) and pull out that 12V wire?
eh, I leave tomorrow morning for big drive:banghead:

Assuming that you are trying to find the wire for a 1999 Taurus, it should be a light blue wire with a white tracer for +12V to the lighter socket.
Is the lighter console mounted or instrument cluster mounted?
If console mounted:
1. Remove beverage holder by carefully unsnapping front portion using a flat-blade screwdriver. Grasp beverage holder and unsnap from console panel (045A36).
2. Open ash receptacle (30702) and move gearshift lever (7210) to 1 position.
3. Grasp console top panel (044D90) and pull rearward to unsnap from console center finish panel. Disconnect electrical connectors from cigar lighter socket and retainer (15055) and lamp assembly.
4. Remove console top panel from vehicle.
If instrument cluster mounted:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
2. Open ash receptacle.
3. At RH rear of ash receptacle, disconnect electrical connectors to cigar lighter socket and retainer.
4. Depress locking tab on LH rear and RH rear corners of ash receptacle toward center and pull ash receptacle from instrument panel (04320).
5. Unscrew retainer from socket and remove cigar lighter socket and retainer.

Thanks a million sir,
Well I had to jet before checking the post, but I was able to reach from behind the driver footwell to disconnect the socket and pull it out to connect it enough. It's now hanging out to the side, wrapped in electrical tape, but at least I have my "turn by turn"
weeeeeee.....
I'll check your manuals when I reach dest. Thanks:eek:
