Starter trouble

Went to start 1999 Suburban. Starter would not turn over. Checked on battery which is charged. Removed old starter, had it checked, found bad, and replaced with new one. Had to take postive wire off of battery to get the wires low enough to put new starter on. Once everything hooked up, went to hook up positive side back to battery, solinoid clicked as if it was going to start. Postive side battery cable become hot. Blowed ignition fuse(40 amp). Took new starter back off. Checked good. Don't know solinoid engages without key being turned on. Help!

If the started was propery checked when off you have something not hooked up right or shorted wiring some place.
The starter solenoid should not kick in unless there is voltage on the small start wire going to it. And ther should not be voltage on it unless the key is in the start position.
It may be best to get a mechanic or a good mechinical minded buddy to help you have a look at it.

I agree with you. I have changed starters out before and have never seen anything like this happen before. I think it is a electrical issue but just wanted to run it by someone before I carried it to the shop. Thanks

I agree with you. I have changed starters out before and have never seen anything like this happen before. I think it is a electrical issue but just wanted to run it by someone before I carried it to the shop. Thanks
