40 psi?

I have 40 psi at the fuel rail, is that enough pressure to atleast start the car? I having issues getting my car started sill. I have checked out everything except the crank position sensor, is there a way to check that sensor wih out pulling the idler pulley? Thanks for the help.

Should be enough to start the car but it should be around 45 psi minimum. Try spraying some starting fluid into the throttle body while turning the engine over. If you have good spark it should start and the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator would be the culprit. Also have you changed the fuel filter lately. You can check the CPS if you can get to the connector and if you have a digital ohm meter. Unfortunately, it is too difficult a test procedure to explain here.

If the crank shaft position sensor is bad would I still get spark?

Sometimes the CPS will go bad but it will still generate a weak spark, not enough to fire the plugs. However, a weak spark can come from many sources. The cps on the 3800 has two reluctor wheels on the back of the harmonic balancer and you will have to pull it to get the CPS out. Usually if you have a weak spark it is from some other reason than the CPS. I believe that the ignition module is bad not the cps especially if you have some spark.
