After reading in here I am looking to go with an sts, I was wondering if I need to do anything with the tranny. My major concern is with the added power it will wear much faster. I do not race, just like to get on it from time to time. I also have a K&N intake and Flowmasters, as well as a super chip. Does anyone know the effect the sts will have on the superchip or does it come with a handheld? Lots of questions, any help is appreciated.

There will no doubt be someone who can tell you what you might expect with your tranny. I can't. If you decide to go STS your best bet will be to get a tune by Allen Nelson of Nelson Performance. He is one of STS's preferred tuners. You can probably talk to Allen about all of it if your so inclined, he has installed many STS's and tuned thousands of Silverado's. what does a "nelson" tune give you, hp, tq gains?? I have seen his name all over the place. Did you have any kind of chip/handleld tuner prior to your nelson tune?

Its a re-flash of your PCM. It def. opens your pickup up. His tunes do the same stuff a handheld does and more. Handhelds are much more reserved, they normally cant be done quite as agressive. He can change shift points, shift firmness, adjust fuel/air mix for high or low octane. And hundreds of other things I dont even know about. No, i didnt have any type of tune. But I didnt think about trying anything else, Nelsons reputation preceded him. When he tuned mine, Its like I was driving a new truck. It felt like it had so much more power all across the rpm range. And got 2+ MPG increase. Def. worth the money. As you have seen this forum is very pro Nelson. All of us who have it, wouldnt trade it for anything.

I have TONS of stuff done to the truck, everything ranging from a cam swap, to ported/polished heads, nitrous, etc. and I'm still on a mail order Nelson tune. Nelson is really good at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone. He's never had a problem finding more power out of my tune, and I'm really looking forward to getting on his dyno and getting another 4-5 tenths out of the truck.

Slow,
Let us know when you are going to SA. I want to see that beast run at the track after the tune. Fridays preferably as the rest of the LugnutZ are always looking for a reason to go to the track.....

We're actually planning a trip to Texas for sometime at the end of the summer. Probably the end of July or eary August. We're going to take a week off and hit a few tracks up. I'll give you more details as we make the plans.
