Good idea, or no? (FMIC related)

I don't know if this is a common mod, old news, or what..but I just dropped by my friends house to help him install "something" on his truck (1998 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel). Turns out it was the biggest, scariest, most rediculous thing i've ever seen that was reffered to as an "intercooler". The thing was massive....so I immidiatly wanted one...I googled around a bit and couldn't find anything really fruitful about compatibility or actual functionality with a dsm application. However, with a 4" inlet/outlet and surface area similar to a small farm...this thing seems like it could cool an apartment, and FREEZE a measly 2.0l 4-cyl. Plus the thing is flat black, and non-gloss...so the "sleep-ablility" factor is amazing. All that, AND throw in a price point that is very reasonable for being what it is.
So, am I WAY too worked up over this thing?
Someone please tell me this thing will work be suitable for high horsepower applications.

any fmic, no matter how nice it is, cannot cool more than to ambient temperature.

True, but I think you know what I meant....but with a N02 or C02 sprayer could'nt that drop it a bit below ambient temperatures?
Can anyone answer or give a little feedback on the initial question please; how well would this work for a high horsepower DSM application..I noticed that it was a little on the thin side (MAYBE 2.25" tops), but I figure the length and height would factor alot into it...
Anything? Anyone?

its way too big, wouldnt work well, wouldnt fit, theres a reason it's not on the market. the fmic's out there are fine, in fact that inteercooler would probaby make us slower...

Yeah, your spool times would go way the fuck up with that. Just get a normal sized IC, turbo diesels need to flow a damn lot more air than you do.

Good points....I guess im just one of those "the bigger, the better" kind of guys, and when I saw that think I just my mind preset was just "OMG!"...but yah, thanks for clearing that one up.

A lot off topic, but anyways I know that a lot of the GN guys run Powerstroke IC for their sweet ass turbo v-6's.

I'll post up a few quick tips to remember when looking at non-standard FMIC options. These really apply to any heat exchanger.
Longer = more time spent in the cooler, but more pressure drop.
Taller = more time spent due to parallel flow dropping velocity, also more frontal area, pressure drop goes down as well
Thicker = more parallel flow area for less pressure drop, but beyong a certain thickness cooling capacity stops inceasing (point of deminishing return).
So I tend to favor tall and thick cores that aren't terribly long. The short but very long cores don't tend to do very well, and have been almost completely wiped out of the major DSM vendors offerings over the last couple years.
You can apply these tips to any core you come across that you think you can stuff in the grill of a DSM. :)
