Since paintball is starting to get boring after a while........i've considered airsoft guns. After doing a little research......how much is even feet per second (fps) is enough for a starter and which is better to start with:spring, electric, or gas operated airsoft gun?

for a starter 150-200 fps is sufficient. Glass blowback guns like my Mac-11 and and sigma sw40f shoot in the 300-400 range and those are intermediate. 400 up for highly modded expert guns... im not there yet
I would start with gas first.. you'll kick yourself if you start with spring cuz you WILL upgrade sooner or later. sooner being the key word

i like electric AEGs. you can switch the batterie during the game very quickly, you can get over 500fps with enough mods. (400-420 is more than enough) and you can dust off a full magazine (some of which are 600 rounds) very fast if you need to.
the problem i find with gas is that the gas is expensive and can run out fast. if you have a compressor and re-fillable aerosol that's not such a problem, but if you dont have these then you'll run out of both money and gas fast.
so electric's my choice, there's an element of personal prefrence but since AEGs are the most popular it's safe to assume that's for a reason, which it is. but if you like gas then go for it, it's also more expensive than the electric counterparts.

i have to disagree... for a novice user. AEG guns are quite expensive...$250 and up. my sigma sw40 GBB(gas blowback) was apx $70 and my mac 11 was $120ish. Yes AEGs are excellent choices for guns but not for people new to the game that want a quick and affordable gun

Screw airsoft. Go BB :)
I used springers when I did airsoft. My guns kept breaking, and thats when I picked up my Daisy Powerline CO2 powered BB gun. 480 fps without breking a sweat.

FOr reliability and durability purposes when you get a gas gun, go Tokyo Marui. I happen to have two. THey are relatively cheap compared to their competitors such as Western Arms.
If you want to go spring, go ahead. But note you have to cock the damn thing everytime you shoot.
Gas is easy, and is somewhat like maintaining a paintball gun, minus the paint.
My two are a Beretta M92FS Chrome and a Sig Sauer P226 with a railed frame (soon to be full metal, as well as the beretta). Both are from Tokyo Marui, whom are claimed to have the most reliable gas blowback system.
The Beretta shoots at about 280 FPS and my Sig can do about 330 I think.
Also, on where to get airsoft, eBay is a decent place as long as you know you're stuff, because of the ads. There are like one or two eBay stores that are strictly airsoft.
There are also websites like www.shortyusa.com (DE, USA), www.redwolfairsoft.com (mostly ship from Hong Kong), www.airsoftextreme.com (California, USA), www.uncompany.com (the best one I've seen yet, Hong Kong), www.wgcshop.com (Hong Kong). Most ship from Hong Kong, or from a part of Asia where airsoft was invented and is most common. All those websites I posted I recommend.
Here they are:

Airsoft I think is better than paintball. I know with paintball it's easier to see who got hit and all. Airsoft, you just play with an honor system. I also think it's better because it's more realistic and I think paintball guns are just too damn ugly. It just doesnt suit me.
You also may come across paint-filled BBs. DO NOT GET THOSE. if one happens to break inside the gun, and it can happen, it will most likely damage your gun. So stay away from paint filled BBs.
Uhm, you don't have to wear a full mask like paintball, just eye protection (obviously). Also, for a decent gas gun by Tokyo Marui, expect to pay up to $200 dollars for the gun, extra magazines or clips, gas (make sure you get the recommended gas, if your gun build is plastic and you get a gas that's too powerful for the gun, you could crack the slide and you can void the warranty), BBs, and holsters if you want. You can also do mods that will help the performance of your gun, but that you should wait on and just get yourself comfortable with airsoft.
