4 wheel drive delay

The problem I am trying to fix is a delay between the time I push the 4hi button and the time it actually switches to 4 wheel drive. It is sometimes as long as a few minutes.

I replaced the vacuum actuator and noticed it was filled with trans fluid. I then replaced the vacuum switch on the transfer case. Again I noticed trans fluid in the hoses when I disconnected the vacuum switch.

First question: How do you get the trans fluid out of the hoses?
Second question: After trying the best I could to get the fluid out, I still have the delay going into 4 wheel drive. Anyone have any other suggestions where to look?

I would suspect a vacuum leak. check all your hoses again. I know it is a real B#%&* to get at but It might solve your Problem.

You''re going to have to remove and blow out all the hoses of the transmission fluid. (At that point, just replace all the hose) and blow out the transfer case switch...

Now, on to what cause the tranny fluid in the vac actuator, hoses, etc.

Blown gasket between the transfer case and the transmission. 7 dollar gasket, will take about an hour to install. Probably one of the more common problems on our trucks. The gasket failes, too much fluid comes from the transmission into the transfer case, then the fluid is pushed (and pulled by vac) back into the system. Not a detrimental issue, but should be cleared up as soon as possible.
