i have a 97 ls 4x4 blazer, and i was driving down the road today and i started to hear a loud hum and click from my front passenger wheel. i thought it was my breaks again, because i had a similar noise, i bled it and it went away. then my rear breaks locked up. that needed to be bled out to. i thought it was all fixed, but when i went to put the tires back on, i noticed that the front passenger was still clicking, i took the tire off again, and found it was comming from the 4wd in the front. i got in, engaged the 4wd and it went away....for a little. then it started making extrememly loud clunking, so i went to disengage it, and it makes the same noise as when i started . so how do i fix this? any ideas, im willing to go wihtout 4wd since its summer, i wont be needing it. just less offroading for me thats all. any suggestions would help greatly, i need the blazer for tommorrow

Have you chacked the fliud level?
CV shaft?
There's really nothing that you can disconect without having imediate problems (with the exception of the front drive shaft whch I can't see being the problem)

yes i checked the fluid. its fine. it was odd, i was offroading the other day, and it woudlnt engage at all. so i thought my transfercase was blown. and im drivin down the road, and it tried to engage on its own. since i pulled the fuse on it, it hasnt acted up. but not my engine light is on for the manufactures transmission control. does that have anything to do with it. its also starting to shift hard , after its warmed up for a while. i have to be driving about an hour or more for it to start shiftin hard, and once i turn it off it resets and is fine for a while. im not a transmission guy, so i have no clue what is goin on.

1997 = Ignition switch failure.
It will cause the codes you are seeing stored for your transmission.
Replace the black module, the guide is in the FAQ section.

Remember, I am not talking about the part that you stick your key into right?

oh i know, its a black box on the bottom left behind the steering wheel. it has a bunch of wires runnin on it, and it plugs in behind the pannel below the steering collum. i had to replace it once, because something in it blew, and it wouldnt let my transmission shift. oh, and the manufactures transmission controll code goes away after a while, the engine light turns off. then maybe < a week later it comes back on. so u think its the switch?

Sounds like you got the tail end of the tranny computer ground update that I was plagued with as well.
People say it is only for 1996, but my late year 1995 had it so your will probably have it too.
Search for transmission ground update.
Solved my problem instantly.

It fixed my harsh 1-2 and intermittent 2-3 shift perfectly. Not one missed shift since the install.
Highly recommended, I would try it first.
And don't allow anyone to say it is for the 1996 only seeing I have a 1995 and it fixed it.

Yes, look at that thread for the part number and have them install it.
I am pretty handy with the wrench, but when it comes to the ECM, I had them install it so it was installed properly.
Not one missed shift since it was installed.
The only reason I found out that it was actually that was because I had the tranny rebuilt and it was still happening when it was hot.
