A/C refrigerant

Greetings from austria!

I have a 1989 Buick Regal Custom Coupe 2,8. There are only 5 cars here
in austria, so i have no technical help here. Because this car was never
official sold here in austria. Everybody ask me always what car this is!!
I love american cars. Here in austria we have only little cars like Honda
Civic or Volkswagen Golf... terrible
A car from america is here like a ferrari or lamborghini. "ggg"

Now my problem: How much gas (refrigerant) is in the air condition system.

The AC doesnt work, because its no gas inside.

I have a repair manual but there are no informations about the filling of the
AC-System.

Please help me!

Welcome to Automotive Forums!! If you have a 1989 Buick Regal, the AC system would be filled with "R12" from the factory. If it has been retrofitted, it could be R134, or who knows what! R-12 has not been manufactured since 1996 in the US and other countries that are in compliance with the “Montreal Protocol” banning the production of fluorocarbons hazardous to the atmosphere.

I have no idea if “Austria” participated in that agreement or not, so you may still be able to get R12. Usually the system capacity can be found in the service manual or on the radiator shroud of the car. Usually, it takes about 32-35 oz of refrigerant if the system is empty. Keep in mind, if the system is empty, you must have a leak somewhere and you need to locate the source of the leak prior to refilling. Also, the standard recharge procedure dictates that you follow the proper evacuation (pulling vacuum) on the system prior to filling. If you fail to follow this procedure, you will be asking for more problems!!

By the way, your English is better than some of our more recent immigrants currently living in the USA!! Some of my friends & neighbors from south of the border, greet me with, " Senor Puto" whatever that means!:screwy:

I was stationed in Germany for 6 years and really only needed or used the A/C (Kliemanlager) in my Chevy Z28 only during one summer. So it is probably no big priority I imagine.

BTW - Visited Austria a few times too.
