OK guys, hope no one gets upset Ia m posting this hear but you guys and gals are the only ones I trust helping me out with this. My dad purchased a 1986 Chevy C10 pickup for $800.00, it will not pass inspection because the previous owner thought it would sound better if he drilled some holes in the muffle. am having a dual exhaust done today and need help on which muffler to have them out on. It is a 5.0L 305 carburated engine. So I know everyone says bad things about Flowmaster sounding tinny and restricting flow, so my options from this custom exhaust place is: Flowmaster, SS409 (which I think is made by Bullet), Magnaflow, and well I think they can get O.E. but that is no fun ;) Here is the link tot he shop doing it www.louscustomexhaust.com

Once again I hope posting this does not cause a problem because I know it is not directly linked to our blazers but someday this engine could end up being in my blazer ;) Thanks everyone

Magnaflow sounded great on my 91 Camaro 305.

Magnaflow.....for sure better than flowmaster and better straight through flow.

I had Flowmaster 2 Chamber (American Thunder Cat-back) on my 88 Mustang GT and I loved it. Good growl and not as tinny as everyone makes them sound. Personally I would have chosen a Borla exhaust but that is just a bit pricey.

Nice, ok I will go with the Magnaflow for my dad, we tried to have it doen yesterday and the truck was leaking gas all under the passenger side door just as they got it on the lift so they couldn't do it. They said it might be hard to get good sound out of the muffler do tot he size of the CAT. They said the CAT was flowing fine but I would benefit more wih added power, gas mileage, and sound if I replaced it with a brand new CAT made by ARVIN that is freeflowing and will restrict less sound. First thing is first though, fix the fuel leak before we all blow up! Thanks for the input and if anyone else can think of another muffler or has personal expierence doing an exhaust on a 305, please keep the ideas coming! Thanks guys and gals

How much are they charging you for the cat?

They didn't say, I just want something to sound decent, you know like it has a V8 in it and kind of show off it has a V8. I told them nothing too loud. I think on the phone he mentioned it could cost about $200 for the cat but I told them I don't think it is leaking or plugged and when they did get it on the lift when I got there they said the CAT seemed fine but the CAt back needed to be redone because of the wrought and rust and holes in the muffler.

$200 is a ripoff for a cat for that truck.

Tell them to stick with the stock cat and just replace it back from there.
