I have just replaced the engine, starter, and battery, in my neon. The battery continues to die out, it will jump run for about a minute then die again. I had the altenator checked and it is good, what else could it be?

Maybe the battery needs to be recharged.

if it runs untill you take the cables off then 1 min later it dies , im thinking have someone else check your alternator... once your vehicle is running you can take the battery right out of your car and it will continue to run till you turn it off , the battery is only there for the starting of the car ( now before you all jump down my throat YES if you have tons of lights and stereo equipment on your car will stall with no battery , but for us average joes we dont have all that and an altenator will keep up ) so as a home test if you like you can jump your car and disconect your poss battery cable , if it dies your alternator is not putting out enough current to keep your battery charged let alone run your car.

Are you sure that the battery is fully charged when your testing the alternator? Correct me if this is wrong-but I've been told that a low battery can throw off an alternator test. How old is the battery? Sure you shoud get at least 2+ years out of a battery-but if your running a lot of stereo eqipment/light/ect if will run it down faster. Consider upgrading to a dry cell battery. They're better equipt for being drained and charged. A regular battery simply isn't made for that. Are you getting any PCM or o2 sensor codes. A bad sensor can cause a car to die while being drivin. (trust me-I've been there-lol) Thisis also a simple fix and a lot less expensive than a dry cell battery. Although-if you do have the extra equipment-they're a nice investment. Does it die when your giving it gas? coasting? etc....let me know.

Usually the alternator is out of the car when tested.

I've had my alternator checked by Shucks (sp?) and Meineke and Battery X-change---all tested it with it in the vehicle. It's probably not the best way to check one-but just an FYI.

^^^Bench testing is the best IMO.

bench testing is nice , but there is no reason to have to take it out of your car , it spends its life in there might as well test it in there. But try the home test if you have to its not perfect but will tell you at least if your alt is putting out the needed 14v ( or close is usually good enough )
