So my neighbor has a factory 1994 3000gt I dont know the exact model but I know its not a VR4. Anyway hes getting ready to get it back running and has been talking alot of crap lately about how hes going to smoke my 3g GT. I'm pretty sure they come with 210hp from the factory but I'm not positive and we both have manual's and my GT is factory too. I think its going to be real close. What do you guys thinks?

It depends. There are the model of 3000gt

1) VR-4 AWD 300bhp
2) SL FWD 220bhp
3) Base 160bhp

If it is a base model you should not have a problem especially since your car has more power and if I recall the Eclispe I about 700 pounds lighter that the 3000GT. The SL I think that you still should be ok against considering the huge weight difference. The VR-4 though you won't stand a chance. Hope this helps

After driving the spyder over the weekend, my SL seems to be slower than a morning jog. That is, until I drive my sister's Civic DX, after which I can appreciate anything the SL offers, lol. It is by no means a "fast" car, but it is decently quick for being so underpowered and overweight. But since both cars, the SL and the 3G GT, are 3.0L, albeit with a difference of being DOHC and SOHC respectively, it should be a driver's race, though the Eclipse seems to have the obvious weight advantage.

I agree with your statement about having decent power without being really all that fast when talking about either of the two cars with the V6. My last car was a 1996 V6 Sebring convertable.....and when I drove my Eclipse GT It felt like a rocket ship. I realize now that it really isnt all that fast....but it still isnt that slow. Yes it's fat, and yes the motor should make more power.....but it's decent enough for what most people need.......and it isnt a civic. I still think the Eclipse will win over and SL

After at one time owning a 3g GT and riding in an SL I am sure you will take him with ease in a race.

700lbs?? LOL try maybe 100lbs if its an SL, maybe less if its a base, and the base still had 222hp in 1994. The 3000gt will win unless he is a bad driver, could be close though.

^^ Werd. A good driver in a SL will pull between 15 and 15.4 (usually low 15's) in the 1/4. Some have made 14.9. And as said, 700 lbs. is GREATELY exaggereated for a SL compared to Eclipse. And he did say it was not a VR4 so you were either referring to the base or SL I would take it. It could be a close race but if you are each equally bad or good at driving the 3/s will win assuming each stock and in similar condition. But then agian I own one.

Its a SL model. I think he was BSing about getting it fixed because this was like a month ago that he was talking all his crap, so yeah it doesnt look like it's going down, but if it does I'll be sure to let everyone know how it went.

My 3000 has 150xxx miles on the stock tranny and the stock motor. I would'nt race if my life depended on it... :grinno: the last thing I need is this old buster springing a leak somewhere, lol. So I spend most of my driving time in the GT just looking g0o0o0od. :icon16:

First off why is it everytime I write along post it says: Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator (http://www.automotiveforums.com/corporate/contact.php)??? Then I lose it all!!, it pisses me off so bad!!

Ok here we go AGAIN, so I'm pulling out my drive way yesterday and here comes my buddy backing out in his 3000gt. He get's behind me and we pull out of my road and we both nail it, I keeped about a full car length on him the whole way up the road, got up to about 100 before we had to slow down for the stop sign. We get to the stop sign and I'm looking back and he's giving me a thumbs up. We pull out the stop sign and I let him get beside me, I hear him nail it and he gets about a half a car length jump on me and thens theres a car coming in his lane so I shut down and let him in front of me. We pull over and talk alittle bit and hes says "he had no idea 3g GT's would pull like that" and he says he "had some head work done to his car to make it faster" (what ever that means). I still want to line them up from a dead stop just so theres no debate on who got the jump first, but I think I got him no problem.
He was talking about getting a fullcat back exhaust for his car but I couldnt finded him one, I checked magnaflow, invidia, and greedy I think but I couldnt find anything for a 3000gt sl. Any ideas on who would make one? I guess I could check the 3000gt section of the forums.

Also just so everyone knows, we live out in the country where the only thing to worry about when racing is hitting a deer or cow lol. Theres usely no traffic on these roads!!!!

You should be able to find a catback there. Although for the money and performance, I'd just get a used vr4 catback and throw it on.
