Yet another spray can problem

I bought a testors spray can earlier this year and i've had this problem ever since i opened up the top and sprayed a model. Ive read through some threads regarding problems with spray cans and the way the paint shoots out. I've also tried things such as cleaning off the paint that's gathered on the spray nozzel with thinner or a blade, and dipping the entire can in hot water. However, the problem is still there. Here's what happens. After i shack the can vigorously, the paint comes out of the can in large "glops" that get all over the place, the can, all over my arm, my fingers, the model, the floor, etc. It feels hard to press down when im pressing down on the nozzel. The paint comes out in either large amounts or little amounts that end up causing orange peel. The odd but good thing about this is that i've been able to spray several (give or take 7) coats on my model and the can still feels like i can do at least one more model:p But why is this happening? How come the nozzel feels hard to press on, and why does the paint still come out either in large glops, small mist, or both after i put the can in hot water?

Because Testors spray cans (usually it's the nozzles) are often CRAP. Defective. Unusable.

Testors sprays are probably the #1 reason people quit this hobby before they ever got good at it.

Get another spray can or nozzle. Tamiya sprays are 10,000 times better. I've never had a bad nozzle.

yep buy tamiya spraycans. Rather costly, but worth every cent. I NEVER hade problems with tamiya spray cans, unless it was a fault of my own...

testors is junk, tamiya is much better. never had a problem yet

Thanks. I've only had problems with that one can but im sure i've used other testors cans before. Id have to check on them again. Most cans ive been using lately are Tamiya and ModelMasters but they are part of testers also right.

actually tamiya is there own brand however model master is apart of testors, try some of testors new laquer paints they have great nozzles and are much better htan b4, also if you look for newer cans of testors enamel sprays than you shouldnt have a problem as long as you are careful

Not true about the nozzles on the testors lacquer. The very first can I used the paint sprayed horribly, it did the same thing that chato described. It made a huge mess of not only my model, but the whole area. The nozzle was completely garbage. Testors buys the cheapest nozzles they can, there is no real quality control-you can get a great nozzle, and you can get one that will ruin your life. If you get a can w/a good nozzle, keep it clean and use it whenever you get a crap nozzle. It's not a matter of "if", but "when".

but the flat paints work right?

After my royal mess w/the first nozzle I changed nozzles and it sprays "good enough for government work".

Sadly Tamiya nozzles will not work w/Testors cans :disappoin

Thankfully, in the UK you can't get Testor spray cans.. We have Humbrol instead to make up for this..:rolleyes:

I only use Halfords (UK autostore) or Tamiya spray cans... Tamiya cans are really really good. You can get a VERY good paintjob using them.

Halfords do a couple of spray can head types. The divan spray head is good, as you can adjust the spray pattern. TBH, I'm now starting to decant paints and use through my airbrush, as airbrush gives the best finishes...
