AOD trans not shifting from first

I'm trying to help my son-in-law. He has a 1989 F150 with the 302 & AOD auto trans, two wheel drive. While driving to work the linkage fell off the TV control lever assembly. He wired it back on & drove home. Well the trans wasn't shifting right after that & was slipping. He thought the trans was shot so he got another from the junk yard & installed it. That one wouldn't shift either. He got another and then another. None would shift. That's when I got involved. I couldn't believe that he had four trans that wouldn't shift. I tried adjusting the TV cable by the book without any sucess. This thing just doesn't shift out of first. Everything looks hooked up correctly. Is there something electonic that makes this thing shift ? Any suggestions ?

I think that there is an electric hookup right on the transmission, it must be pluged in and clean on both ends.Also try all the ground wires to the transmission, and to the shifter.
