Hello board:
Does anyone know if a rear end from a 1991 350 cadillac brougham bolt into my 1984 chevrolet caprice? The rear thats in the cadillac is a 8.5 10 bolt with 3.08 posi. the tread width is the same and from eyeballing, looks like it will work, but I am not sure. What Say You :O: Mighty Board?

Thank You All

It will work, but keep in mind you will have to have wheels with two different bolt patterns (5x4.75" on the front, 5x5" on the Cadillac rear).

Also you will need to have the driveshaft shortened. The 8.5" rear is deeper than the 7.5 or 7.625 rears.

All of this, including silicon212's answers, assumes you do not have a wagon or 9C1.

Hello again
Do you think the spindles, calipers, roters, from same cad.along with concerns for balljoint size,a-arms,can be used to upgrade front end, also bolt pattern of the caprice?I also have access to a 1979 cad. deville for parts. So what do you think.

Thanks

You're absolutely right, however we're talking about an '84, you stand corrected. =)

Hello all again I really screwed up last post.when I called attention to second posting I was talking about the spindle, cailpers, rotors from 1991 cad.and if these parts would install on the 1984 caprice
Thanks Guys

I think it should work. The Cad would be a D or C body. But the only real difference between the B and C/D bodies is the wheel base. Everything else should interchange.

What did he say? I missed that... :D

The other wildcard is the transmision. I can just about guaranty the Caddy has a 4L60/700R4, but the '84 might have a 700 or 200. Could get really lucky, or you might be making a driveshaft. If you do it, take the Caddy driveshaft so you have the right yoke.

84 would be 700r4

200 was only for a coupel years and was also in the f bodies

i have never found any evidence that the 2004r tranny was any earlier than 86 in the caprices

i am unsure of any other year(s) in the caprices. i am curious now, but i know it wasnt as early as 84 in the B bodies

good luck

Just for clarification, F-Cars only got the TH200C, (never the TH200-4R) and only in their darkest, saddest days. By the time the little weakling transmission was turned into an overdrive unit (200c -> 200-4R) F-Cars thankfully only got the 700-R4. The only exception to this was the handful Buick powered F-Cars in '88-90, since the TH200-4R had a BOC bolt pattern.

Buick had an F-car 88-90? I thought the F body comprised the Camaro and Firebird - nothing else?

No, he said Buick POWERED f-cars... There were some T/As that had the turbo-charged v-6 out of the Buick Grand National in them during that time frame.

I stand corrected. It was late when I read that.

Silly Con... ;)

That's O.K. Half the time I don't catch key details in posts, and waste everyone's time and bandwith. At least your question is legitimate.

So I wonder, what's the verdict on the Caddy rear axle?
