Noob Handbook

I propose we create a guide thread, a handbook if you will, for the newcomers to AF. The point of the guide: what NOT to do once youstart posting. yes, there is already a sticky thread stating the general guidelines (no flaming, intentional postwhoring etc) but these are the previously unwritten rules. All the shit that draws the wrong kind of attention and inevitably gets a noob flamed and/or banned.
For starters:
1) Never refer to nitrous oxide gas as NOS unless speaking specifically about that brand of N2O
2) NEVER call VTEC "VTECH":nono:
3) Please don't talk about how much "backpressure" your new 5 inch piping on your exhaust creates/ eliminates, giving you ungodly amounts of hp
4) Please refrain from refering to other noobs as noobs until you have broken the 250 post mark or have been a member for a year, whichever comes first (unless you're some kind of super postwhore)
5) Do not create posts in ALL CAPS. Its very annoying to read. This also includes AlTeRnAtE cApS :disappoin
6) Please try to use close to proper english. This isn't a school website, but at least make an effort to create readable posts.
7) Please try to keep signature pics at a reasonable size. Its pretty annoying to have to use the bottom screen scroller just because you have a humongous pic in your sig
Please add to this list to make a noob's experience as painless as possible

250??? too small. Half a year to a year membership or once we, the AF family, stop calling you a n00b! :p
'Cause obviously they've been posting in the guidelines. 'Cause you can have a 1000 posts and still be a n00b without being a whore.
DON'T!!! Bring up F&F unless a very funny story is tied to it. Or, as of now, the movie is coming out so reviews or what you may expect.

This may be in the official AF guidelines, but its worth repeating:
Don't bring back threads from the dead! On occasion its relevant and acceptable to post in threads that have been sitting dormant for over two months, but not often. Use your better judgement. On second thought, just don't do it.
Also, use the search function before posting really general questions. Especially about how-to's. There's often been a million threads about the same topic that can be found by using the correct keywords
If you don't see the search function in your toolbar, its right here:

FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions. If it says "read before posting" give it a try!

Don't hijack threads, if you want to tell people how the restoration on your car is coming along, post your own thread.

^On that note, don't have a convo in a thread you could have on AIM, MSN, or whatever.

Read. Comprehend. Post.
But in all seriousnes..
If your referring to something that someone posted, quote it.
If you want to sound intelligent, type well.
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I probably missed an assload of things, but..meh.

Don't call anyone a n00b unless you're Igor, because there's always someone else who can call you a n00b.

...And no matter how many times you've read the AF guidelines, read 'em again, and don't post any SPAM. There are enough opportunities to win an iPod or plasma screen tv on the net without being reminded on this forum. Go post your SPAM on some other forum.

But if you're going to flame, flame right. Be intelligent about it including correctly spelled words/grammar/puntcuation etc.
don't make a thread asking a question about AF. Such as:why is did a thread close? where did my posts go? how can i change my avatar?
PM's don't seemed to be used enough, so do not neglect. :nono:

^ Very true. PMs are not used enough. This should be included in this "Noob" list, as well as in all others.

Make sure you know what you're talking about when you attempt to "correct" someone. I've seen so many idiots try and "pwn" others when the information they post is just as useless.
