What newer nissan engine, preferably a powerful one, would be a relativly easy swap for this sentra car and what would be needed?

The motor is the 1.6 GA block isn't it? If so I think a FWD SR20DET can be made to fit reasonably easy. With that you can make more power then you'll ever need in a 87 Sentra.

no its not a ga16. i believe its a 1.3L or 1.5L or something... nothing really fits that comes to mind, you might try researching the CA18ET from the mid 80s RWD 200sx...

your sohc 1.6.. e-16 ... most can swap in a 1.8 DET with some work. it will give you 175 in stock form. or you could do the sr20 or sr20det with some fitment issues. and wiring. this could net you 140 to 220 bhp the issue is what are you looking for.. if you want power like 300+ u may try another chassis..after this your going to drop more money to hp than most cars..
