98 JGC -Trans shifting from 1-3 -check engine

The check engine light on our 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee has come on. It revs high upon acceleration and then shifts from 1st to 3rd only after initially starting the vehicle. It shifts fine (1st, 2nd, 3rd...) after the first time from 1st to 3rd. I have reset the computer and it still does the same thing. I took it to AutoZone to get the diagnostic done. Transmission Speed Sensor code came up. Replaced the sensor. Reset computer. Still same thing.
Have also noticed it shifting for just a second from 4-3 while cruising at 60 with cruise control set. No hills or reason to downshift.
I know the fluid and filter is due to be replaced. Wondering if it could just be the bands need adjusting or could be more?
Looking for any suggestions or advice from experienced readers. Thanks.
