i don't know how many of you out there have heard about this but it is a ringer that kids are putting on their phones these days that emit a sound that a mosquito would make. the thing is that it supposedly is made at such a frequency that adults CANNOT hear it. one of the guys i work with had a link to the ringer or something. and surprisingly enough there were three people out of like 7 that could NOT hear it. personally i find it rather annoying and it hurts my ears yet i would like to have the ringer on my phone. just wondering if anyone here as heard of this and anyone know where i can get? i like free stuff though :P (if that is borderline against the rules let me know, thanks)

I haven't heard of it, then again I refuse to pay for anything extra.

i know some phones, like mine, you can make mp3s into ringers. it's something you can play with.
but what's the point?
i think they use it more for like text message alerts. at least that's what i got out of the article. i may set it as a ringer and next time i'm in a meeting i'll see who all can hear it.

The point is now kids can bring their cell phones into the classroom and not get caught. At least that is the breaking news apocalyptic disaster that every freaking major news station has been covering in between interviewing Ann Coulter and showing pictures of al-Zarqawi's corpse.

That wasn't towards you specifically, but more towards those kids who play games and text message during class, and then ask me for help.

Many radio stations in my area were talking about this yesterday morning and making a big deal out of it and how kids were using it in the classroom so their teachers couldn't hear it. Funny thing is they played the sound and I heard it plain as day and I'm almost 40. So maybe I'm not going deaf after all those '80s heay metal concerts I attended :ylsuper:

what i find funny is that the noise it makes was originally a teen deterrant noise. sort of used for like crowd control. i guess if you hear that tone after like a minute it would get annoying and i would leave the crowd. personally i think it's rather stupid. and I agree, kids need to put their phones away and pay attention. my friend is ALWAYS texting in class, then when it comes to tests and stuff he asks me for help. i don't know what's worse, the mosquito ringer, or the clicks of texting :dunno:

i took a computer programing course in grade 9 and i did that same kind of thing where i'd get my laptop to play a high frequency noise really loud and people couldn't tell where it was coming from. they eventually got pissed and i'd shut it off lol.

I hear it.
This about the dumbest idea from kids yet. Do they think teachers are stupid? Okay, some are, but the good ones will catch you scratching your nuts no matter how much you try to hide it. I wouldn't allow phones in my classroom, let alone my school. If kids could make it without pagers they can do without their cell for 7 hours.
