legnum vr4 poss gearbox problem need help pls!!!

can anyone pls shed a little light on to my problem (car one that is!!!):screwy:
i have a 1997 vr4 estate - tiptronic
when put in gear the engine revs quite alot first and then engages harshly and sets the car off at a million miles an hour
this is a bit scarey when pulling out of a junction
i have been told it is the torque convertor
IS THIS TRUE???
and if so where is the cheapest place to purchase one

Check the level and condition of the gearbox oil. Incorrect grade/level causes all sorts of problems.
