85 Prelude Intake

Hey Guys, new to the forum, but I hang out alot in the jeep forums. Anyways, I purchased an 85 Prelude with the 1.8 Dual Carb Motor. I took it for a trip and ended up getting 38mpg. I was wondering if getting an intake would help me increase that even more. Not that I am being greedy (Hell my jeep only gets 17). There is one problem I have with my whole thought of getting an intake. The air filter in its stock form is in the housing for the carbs, if I where to purchase an after market cone filter would it be ok to remove this? Just looking for suggestions, thanks guys!

Your pretty much limited to what you can do for the carbed model.
