I have a problem with my sonata It has overheated and when I put in park it idles up and down continuesly. It also eccelerates funny in traffic it's like not enough fuel is getting to the engine when you go to eccelerate. Does anyone know what is wrong with my car Please help I just graduated college and I AM REALLY POOR. I need to get to work wich is 45 minutes away by car. Any quick fixes... HELPPPPPPP G

A few things could be wrong of course... a couple of common ones to look at first is a new fuel filter ... a very slight air leak in the fuel line some place ( make sure all connectins are snug ) will make a engine hesitate ... replace the air filter and make sure the radiator isn't caked up with bugs ... buy a can of carb cleaner and spray all the moving parts on it ...... of course there are several sensors that regulate fuel and air flow but sometimes hard to track down unless you can afford the equipement or hire someone to check them .......

My 99 Sonata did the same sort of thing to me. While I was driving, it hesitated a few times, then all of a sudden the rpms are jumping all over the place, car won't go more than 40 mph and it sounds like crap (like an old lawnmower or something). I got it home, but it stalled in the driveway and wouldn't start back up. I had it towed to the dealership and it gave a code for crank sensor. Well, my crank sensor had just been replaced a week before (at the same place) so they had to trace the problem to deep inside the engine. They found a disconnected wire that was causing the sensor to malfunction. Bottom line: Sounds like a bad crank sensor (or wiring to such) to me.

the problem is easily diagnosed using the downloadable repair manual at the front of this thread. you will easily have enough money to buy a new car though when you get a refund from the crappy ass college that gave you a diploma. learn to spell dumbass............
