really stupid question

Ok. this is probably a really stupid:icon16: question but here it is anyway: If I replace my 14'' pimpin' stock wheels for some nicer maybe euro (la tee da) wheels, what will happen with regards to my speedometer and odometer? Will the change in size affect either, if so how much?

The 14s are smaller diameter, but a taller profile tire is used, compared to the alloy, which use a low profile tire. So actual outside tread diameter change is probably negligible. Anyway, a speedo shop can check and calibrate it...

IF you call a tire shop, and act like you're wanting new wheels and tires, they can tell you from your oem 14" what size 15" or 16" tire would be the same height to keep your speedo accurate.

Is the speedo the only thing that could possibly change? A larger size wouldn't affect my odometer or anything else would it? If my speedo was off, it wouldn't really bother me too much, as long as I knew how much it was off (so I don't get pulled over).

If it's too much, it can affect the speed at which the torque converter locks and unlocks, causing driveability issues. The odometer and speedometer both work off wheel rotation, so too tall a tire will throw both off. Stick with close to stock tire diameter to eliminate wheel well clearance issues and or rubbing while turning.

FWIW, There is only one "dumb question." That would be the question you didn't ask when you needed an answer for something you didn't know.
The main concerns are tire O.D./circumference (affecting revs per mile), tire section width (affecting clearances), and wheel offset (affecting clearances and toe on turns).

thanks. but I thought it was "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people" wait a minute...that would make me a stu.....never mind!
