My buick takes 5+ miles on the freeway to get my ac to start blowing out good air. it blows out somewhat cold at first but it's wimpy later on it blows out full force like a blizzard. A friend of mine sugested that I may have a vacuum leak:screwy: Any advice I would be most thankful.

You could have a vacuum leak, low on Freon, or have lazy blender doors. It would be nice to know more details. Is it cooling during the first 5+ miles, are the fans blowing out passenger vents or defrost & floor or, is it blowing warm air until you drive 5+ miles? Fortunately you live in the same area as the company listed below who specializes in automotive AC systems. Give them a call or, stop by & have them check it out. it is blowing cool air out of the floor and defrost vents, but it takes the 5+ miles to get it to blow out the dash vents so you can really feel it.it is a 97 limited with 56k miles on it. my step-father bought it brand new here in phoenix and it has spent most of it's life sitting in the garage.

From your discription it sounds like low vacuum.
Lot of vacume controls on it that switch heater from hot to cold and so on.
Check all vacuum lines and hoses and vacuum tank on engine to firewall or to heater/air.
If you need help with it as posted the AC-kits.com is one of the best places to get it fixed.
They have a web link or just take it to them.
TRB and the other people there will take good care of you.

I have a similar problem with a 97 Custom although my AC works fine until about 5 miles from work on my way home ( on the freeway). The AC will switch from the vents to defrost. This is the only time it seems to happen, although it does not happen every day. If I shut it off and turn it back on, it usually corrects it, although this isn't working as well as it used to. If I turn it off and back on AC Max, it will correct it. I'll have to check into the vacuum issue. Maybe this is possibly affecting my gas mileage as well due to a vacuum leak. My mileage has dropped off a few miles per gallon, but tune-ups and other things I have done to it have not helped. I did check for vacuum leaks under the hood about 2 weeks ago, but found none around the engine.
