i have a 97 gtp and was wondering if its very common for the supercharger to go bad?

the only issues on that supercharger are snout bearings and the coupler. The blower itself is very reliable.

How many miles are on your GTP? What problem do you believe you are having with the supercharger? One reason for premature failure is not checking the oil level or changing out the special oil.

it has 147000 miles...i have a friend who says hers sounded the exact same way (kinda rough) when hers went out, but my bf thinks it sounds like a bearing??????
we just replaced the head and intake gaskets and just got it put back together two days ago so it would be just my luck that something else big would go wrong!

I've seen Eaton M90 blowers with well over 150K miles working fine.

I'd recommend keeping an eye out for any possible SC problems like noises or insufficient boost but taking action for something that is not broken is not necessary.

As a minimum you could ensure it is properly serviced by changing out the SC oil. See link below for SC servicing.
