belt/waterpump problem

The truck in my sig has 130,000 miles. I just got done replacing intake gaskets and was out driving it around and I could smell antifreeze. When I replaced the gaskets I replaced the serpentine belt as well because it was probably the original belt and it was cracked and stretched. The new belt went on very tight, I almost don't need a tensioner. Turns out the antifreeze is now leaking out of the waterpump bearing. If I replace the pump is that going to fix it or will the new pump go out right away too from the tight belt?
I was thinking that the old pump was just worn enough that the new belt finished it off but I likt to have input form others.

seems to me as long as the tensioner applys the final presure to the belt it should be fine, there wouldnt be any way to get the belt on if it was too tight without the tensioner

I agree. I would say that it is just a coincidence. Sounds like it's time for a new pump!
