02 Camaro SS

This last saturday went out to roam around see what i could find. Couple of mexican guys wanted to run. When they came up to me i told them what i had. Knowing that a stock SS dyno's 310+rwhp i told them i had 300 at the wheels. They wanted to race (thats what i was hoping for haha), but then they wanted to race for money. I was kinda like, "ehh i don't know, like how much?". They said 20 bucks. I thought about coming clean about my real power rating but then i said alright i guess. Ok so to the race, we're at a light and of course it goes green and we're off. My tires absolutely have no traction what-so-ever in 1st and 2nd gear. He pulled a solid car length through 1st. My shift to second i stopped his pull and started reeling him in. I shifted to 3rd as i passed him up very....very...easily. As soon as i rounded out 3rd i was close to 3 car lengths and no sign of him catching up. i shut down. This was a stick i believe, he said he had aftermarket exhaust, cam, and intake. He just bought it, even had temp tags on it. Well another chevy goes down. Oh yeah i let him keep his money, if i took it i'd feel like i was rubbing it in that i won. I dont' like to do that. so that was a fun race, that's all.

No this car did NOT have 400rwhp, it sounded healthy (like it had aftermarket cam) I never got to see under his hood but i know he had exhaust at least. The idle sounded to lopey to be stock and the loudness of his car was very exceptional. So if he did have 400rwhp then he would have whooped me hard.

I only put down 350rwhp/350rwtq.

On a side note: I apologize to any chevy guys here if i offended you. I copy and pasted this post from another "Ford" only forum that i'm on. The "Another chevy goes down" was just to be in the spirit of that forum know what i mean? anyway no pun intended.

yeah he may have, cause it sounded too lopey to be stock. But to be honest i really don't know what a stock ls1 idles like. But i would think that chevrolet would have made it a little more smooth off the showroom floor than the way this thing idled.

Most cams these days can make 400 RWHP pretty easily with the LS1.
Like 2000LS1Z28 mentioned though, there are smaller more streetable cams that make 360-370 RWHP.

Some guy with mid length headers, lid, catback, and a 224 cam is actually making less power then my car. I think with a cam some cars need a tune, as I see alot of cars with lopey cams putting out less then 350whp. It seems like some cars perform better then others. My car ran like crap without a tune. The tune gave me a good 20whp, and alot more across the board.

I can see his 3000lbs GT taking down a mildly modded SS Camaro.

Not saying it didn't happen.

Hell...anymore the newer 224 cams are making 400 RWHP once tuned. :lol:
I hear cammed LS1 and think at least 375 RWHP anymore.

Yeah the newer 224 cams are really good. I believe the guy had an older aggressor cam.

I'm thinking of maybe stepping up to a stealth II cam later on.

Well i'm not exactly sure, i think a foxbody GT with a 5spd weighs around 3250 w/o driver. I weigh 135lbs. so around 3400lbs. The only think i can think of is that it wasn't tuned. But remember i do have a 331 not a 302/306. So i'm fairly close in engine size, and i have better flowing heads, intake, long-tubes, gears, and of course my car is tuned. His didn't have gears, obviously wasn't tuned cause it didn't put up much of a fight after 2nd gear, Next time i'll try and get some video of some of my races for ya.

oh i know, its all good. But its always better to have video anyways, plus now that i have high speed connection i'm looking forward to getting some footage posted. Its possible he was lyin' about his mods, i didn't get to confirm anything under his hood so that could have been the case...also i forgot to mention he was pretty pissed off that i won, i gave him a thumbs up repeatedly afterwards and he just stared. hehe, i was like alright man cya.

I dunno if I can really gauge how well Brandon smoked an LS1 by seeing him smoke your car. An LS1 F Body is roughly a second faster then your Cobalt SS, which is huge.

No doubt it is a second faster, but he's putting down a bit over 350 rwtq and rwhp in a car that wieghs a few hundred less that an F-body. It's simple math ;) The Camaro can be putting down a bit more power to the ground than the 5.0 and still lose because of the weight difference alone.

from what I understand, being a full second ahead, is like, more than 5-6 cars, more than that I think.

I'm just saying that by your vid it really doesn't give any indication of LS1 stomping horsepower. I think he needs a vid of him smoking an LS1 is all. A stock one shouldn't even be a remote challenge for him, though I think a bolt on one might be somewhat close (Full bolt ons at that :p ).

In short i'm bugging Brandon to go get a kill on an F Body on video. That way I can sit back and eat some popcorn.

Ahh, I see what you're saying now and you're right, the vid is not a good comparison to a race with an LS1, because I'm not a good comparison to one :lol:

I posted it for two reasons: 1. His thread made me think about these videos that I had stored away on my office PC and I've been meaning to post them for some time now. 2: I wanted to show that his car is the real deal. The thing hauls some serious ass.

right now my camcorder is broken so i gotta try to find a new one for somewhat cheap. then i can start posting some vids and stuff. I will try to find a passenger to go with me and find a decently modded LS1 to race next weekend.
