ive got a 92 eclipse 2.0 NT ..or so it used to be.
anyhow, i blew the engine a long time ago, so i finally got a new/used bottom end. the only problem is the junkyard set me up with the wrong one and i have no return policy. i was told it was a 2.0 bottom end, but it was really a 1.6 hyundai elantra motor (1994 i think).
my question is, would it be ok to put my 2.0 head on the 1.6 block and what would the performance be like? i know it wouldnt be as good as the 2.0 bottom end, but i plan on rebuilding that when i get some money and swap bottom ends once again.
thanks for your time and replies :)

So basically you blew your 4g63 and bought a 4g61. I know the heads are similar but I'm not 100% sure if they are the exact same.

is it at all possible to return the motor? If you pay for a certain motor that's what you should get. You'd be flowing a lot less air.

eh, its not a big deal anymore. i just want to be able to drive it to get to work and so on. i was just wondering how lame it would be heh. in the meantime, i can put the 2.0 block on the engine stand and rebuild it very slwly and plop it in when its all done. i jsut cant afford the $300 oil pump >.<

update: i suppose the 2.0 head on the 1.6 block is possible, but i wasnt successful. i guess the 2.0 heads combustion chamber is too big for the 1.6 block causing low compression. it turned over a couple of times aftr about a miunte or so of cranking. it just kept building pressure, but when it started it ran fine. not worth waiting the minute or more for it to turn over.
i may have done something wrong, but i dont think i did. ended up just using the entire 1.6 motor. this is only temporary as i am rebuilding the 2.0 block eventually.
the performance isnt all that great, however, it isnt horrible. not much pickup but it gets you from point a to point b. cant ask for much more with a $200 engine heh.
thanks for your time and comments guys. :)
