Moderators

Just wondering, what's with the moderators here on AF? Do they always have to be right? Jet-Lee has an interesting argument with quteasabutten and gets banned? quteasabutten takes the time to make up some AF apparel without knowing it was against the rules, and gets banned? Threads get locked for no apparent reason as well.

You'll probably lock this for no reason but if you could post a reason please do... don't just give some silly answer or link to the AF rules.

Other forums are self-moderated and operate just fine... if somebody is really being racist or a complete jerk then fine, ban them, but if people are simply giving their opinions then isn't that the point of a forum?

Oh come on... I'm asking a question that I think will get some interesting responses... plus I would like to hear other people's opinions.

Jet-Lee has been warned on several occasions to play nicely among the community we have here. In the thread in stress release, he started by antagonizing the thread starter with comments that were unneeded to say the least, personally attacking the guy and calling him a prick (if I recall correctly). Then, when qute replied and called him on is rude remark, he personally attacks her and guess what? All hell breaks loose. That's what we as moderators call "flaming." We don't want it here. Considering the warnings he's been given, he should feel lucky I only banned him for a week.

Qute, as I was told, knew about the AF store and therefore knowingly posted what appeared to be her own link to the AF merchandise that was pretty much a separate store from the AF one, advertising material that she was not granted permission to advertise.

We close threads because most of us have been on these boards long enough to know when a thread is going south or if it pretty much serves no purpose whatsoever. We also know a lot about dealings with the members here such as warnings or prior run ins, that allow us to deal with them accordingly.

This brings me to my final point: What we do and how we do it, unless it's obviously in the wrong, is of no concern to you (sorry, that's about as nice as I can put it). If there is a reason that you are not given for something, don't worry about it. Generally, if we close a thread, it's for good reason. If we ban someone, they had it coming or earned it. Don't worry about why, just keep on posting.

the only mod i deal with is mr.lous and hes a cool cat so i have no problems...i think the mods are like parents and were like teenagers...we think were slways right but in the end they know best.

its not how much you talk really, its how much you're affected by insults/locks/bans... i mean, sure, it might not be fair to be banned for a dumb reason, but seriously, just shake it off. its an internet forum. if it really hits you that hard, i'm saying you probably don't have a very big social life, and probably should start soon.

i dont think that. they may be funny but they insults weren't there making it sarcastic or jokey. he really wanted to say something to be offensive. we joke around, i do a lot and i dont get banned because they're jsut jokes and we all know it.

ever since i've joined, i've seen Jet get very touchy on some subjects, especially in the Car Audio forums. I just sat back and watched him and who'ever else duke it out, cuz honestly, insults aside, he's very intelligent, and so are most of the pple he's fighting with (as he doesn't seem to make the effort for retards) He's like... eating a puffer fish. it tastes terrible, and you might die, but its... i dunno, intelligent in some way? that was a gay comparison. w/e, you get what i'm saying. He's hot headed, yeah, but he raises goo dpoints at times. just cuz he offends, doesn't necessarily mean he should be banned.

alright in my defense...since i somehow have had my name dragged all over this thread...i honestly didn't know what i was posting was against the rules. i looked several times for that AF store, no one would tell me where it was so i ended up thinking it was just something that had been made up. so i plead stupidity on that one. i got the ban i deserved, learned my lesson. the end.

jet-lee was being rude in that thread, like vin and swigz said, he is touchy and has started fights with others before. i've always respected him as a member here and never had had a problem with him until then, but the personal attacks that were virtually unprovoked were rather unnecessary.

no it wasn't uncalled for. i broke the rules. being banned for that long sucked yes, and whether or not i was aware that i broke the rules was irrelevent. it's my fault for not reading thru the AF guidelines. mods are here for a reason. they're people who have been here awhile and are important people to the site and know what they're doing. they're not crazy people on powertrips.

The mods here all do a damn fine job, they don't need some unknown newbie whining bitching with out any understanding of the circumstances or the details.
If you have a real problem then PM an admin (not me) if you suffering PMS get a clean rag, if you just being a dick head then keep it up and you can banned to.
