Try double clutching.

could be a synchro, do you hear grinding??? How's your tranny fluid?? if it's due for a change, maybe some redline or royal purple'd do the trick till you can fix the synchro

doesnt sound like a synchro problem. usually synchro problems are about grinding, not being able to shift at all

This is risky shit, but you can do it to find out if your synchros are okay... what you do is when your in second drive normally up until about 2000-3000 rpms and push on the shifter like you are going into third with it, but don't use the clutch, and give it some power (with your hand that is) and try to power it into 3rd gear. If you can do all of this, than your synchros are fine, but if you hear any grinding at all than it's something else.

i agree with Young. bad synchros will give you a grinding noise. not being able to shift is usually a problem with either the master or slave cylinders.
when my slave cylinder went out, i could shift sometimes, and not others. i would assume if the master went out, shifting altogether would be impossible. but i would check your master/slave cylinders for leaking clutch (aka brake) fluid. the master cylinder is located in the engine bay, drivers side, up top by the brake booster, its got a little circular top.

the slave cylinder is harder to get to, but most easily accessed by removing or pushing aside the intake pipe, b/c its just on top of the transmission.
slave cylinder (in pic marked 'release cylinder'). notice the 'release fork,' this will help you identify the slave cylinder

pics work for me.
CHeck your fluid, your cylinders, and then perhaps it's time for a tranny/drivetrain oil change.

If it's been 60k or more since you've changed your drivetrain oils, it's definantly time.
