As far as gauges go....????

wattup peoples, I got EL reverse gauges for my car. The wholes that come on these gauges are big enough that they easily slide over the needles. So thats not the problem.
Heres what happened to me and the problem. The problem is the original stock gauges! In order to get my new gauges on I have to remove the stock ones and the holes on them aren't big enough to just slide over. The first time I did it I snapped my needles off!. Even now I'm driving with no engine temp needle or gas needle! From the replies I got on here it seems my best route is to by a whole new gaugle cluster.
Once I do that how do I avoid the same problem happening again? i.e. what is the best way to get the needles off and on again without breaking them?
thanks for alll the help and info
peace
p.s. is it true I cannot get a CTR gauge for my car since my car is an auto trans?

on my civic i just put the indiglos over the stock ones. just the part where the engine temp and gas are i broke the engine temp needle. i ended up buying a gauge cluster holder thing and got a new water temp gauge, but i only broke one needle. i think what you have to do is use a fork, upside down and pop the needle out. because mine sure as hell didn't come with any instructions or tools, nothing. good luck
