Well, if it's like my '99 2.0L, it is right at the back of the engine bay against the firewall. It's back behind and kind of under the tubing that comes off the air filter box. I took my air filter box out when I changed mine for easier access. On mine the filter is a black cylinder with the fuel line bolted to the top and bottom. Hope that helps.

Thanks peachferrari, it's given me a starting point. Up 'til now I've been at a loss to find it.

Let me know if you need more help. There are some precautions you need to take if you're going to change it yourself.

Thanks a lot. I've done it, the only problem was the tightness of the inlet fitting. By the way I notice you have an Elantra whereas my car is a Lantra, comes in sedan and (sports)wagon models. The filter was located against the passenger side inner wheel arch below the air filter box.

Interesting. Sounds like it's kinda backwards from mine. My air filter box and fuel filter are both on the driver's side.
But yeah, the Elantra (from 1996-2000) came in sedan and wagon forms as well (mine's a sedan). For 2001-2006 there were sedans and 5-doors (hatchback).
The 2007 redesign will be coming out soon in the states, so far I've only seen pics of a sedan.
