Got some questions regarding Tamiya's 2003 R34 Skyline.
This is the decal given by Tamiya for the seats.

Is it accurate? I'm getting SMS's carbon kevlar, so would black/amber be a good match for this?
SMS1224 Scale Motorsport 1/24 Carbon Kevlar Plain Weave Black/Amber Composite Fiber
SMS1424 Scale Motorsport 1/24 Carbon Fiber Plain Weave Pattern Black/Pewter Composite Fiber
I have another question regarding the wheel wells. Are they really colored XF-60 dark yellow?Tamiya's paint guide shows a strange painting pattern for the front wheel wells (red arrow). Is this really the way it should be?

Good question about the wheel well. I've got this kit, and I thought the very same as you.
As for the seat, I think the Tamiya supplied CF seat decal is good to get you going, but I think, but others might correct me that SMS kevlar is better. And more accurate.
I'll throw this over to those who know more about car model building then me..

I couldn't accurately tell you what the specific fibres used for the seat were. In my opinion, Tamiya's pattern in the pic is a bit overdone- one of the SMS patterns may very well look better. Seat backs are often hard to see in built up cockpits, so it really may not mater much which one you choose. Whatever you use, it will probably need to be toned down. SMS CF is a decent representation of CF components viewed in direct sunlight (or with a bright photographic flash), so it's appropriate for something like a CF bonnet or rear wing. But if you're applying it to something that is almost never seen in direct sunlight (like a seat back), it will almost definately be too bright. Spray some clear acrylic smoke over it.
As for the wheel wells, it's impossible to say accurately without reference pics, but most likely Tamiya is indicating an area of kevlar with the XF-60. SMS of course makes a plain kevlar weave pattern that would be fine for this.

True. Tamiya will often use flat yellow and semi-gloss black paint callouts for sections that are actually composite materials. Always check your references. Too bad ref. pictures are so hard to come by for the Super GT cars...

Is this plain kevlar weave also amber and black? I was thinking of using the same kevlar as the one used on the seat back.

Not, I just check mine: despite the print is great and done from cartograf, the pattern's design isn't realistic, much better some aftermarket sheet.

The XF-60 area is not kelvar. It is some rubber like material.

Any idea what material it is?
And for the R34 chassis pan, I notice the entire chassis is supposed to be semigloss black. Is it carbon fiber again?

In that case, I think I'll use XF-60 for the wheel wells.

For the R34 Calsonic skyline seat, should it be plain weave kevlar, or basket weave kevlar? Scale motorsports produces both and I have no idea which to use.
In addition, the seatbelts are made by a manufacturer called ANZ. I've never heard of this, and Modelers/Studio 27/etc. only make the popular ones for Sabelt, Takata, etc. Are there any companies that produce 1/24 ANZ seatbelts?

Got another question regarding the roll cage. Tamiya's instructions say it's bare metal silver and black, but the picture doesn't clearly show where the delineation of color is. Has anyone found reference photos of the original car's rollcage?

Are you SURE? I mean the color is spot on for Kevlar. The same material the Toyota GT-One (and almost all other factory race cars) uses and Kevlar is used in that particular area of race cars to contain flying debris that the sticky slicks pic up and throw off in the wheelwells.

1. I'm still not sure how to paint the rollcage. Instructions say it's mostly bare metal silver with some black areas, but the exact color separation is vague.
2. The seatbelts are grey with blue pads. I've never seen this color for aftermarket parts before. Any idea if any manufacturer makes this combo?

Some pictures I took while the 22 car was over for GT Live. All done with a camera phone. Have to learn not to move before it closes the shutter...
