Subaru Impreza '98 - Street

Hi to all,
This is my first finished build for a while (since my Evo IV), took a while to complete after a few restarts - originally painted it copper brown but hated it so stripped it, repainted TS 76 Mica Silver but ruined the last clearcoat and had to strip again (good stuff, 99% Isopropyl alcohol). Third time came out just right!

This is the Tamiya '98 Monte Carlo kit that I picked up cheap and converted to street. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out and I love the Mr Model wheels (Courtesy of Hiroboy's shop). I agonised for ages over wheel choice. The arches are so huge! In the end though I think the wheels really work on the car.
I didn't use the Mr Model brake kit as the brakes on the car were already installed (AP racing items - Alclad aluminium with grey calipers). With a little modification the wheels went on perfectly and I think they look fantastic.
The interior had a lot of the Rally gear removed and the roll cage was painted gloss aluminium. The seats are a lovely satin blue with CF and cleared backs but sadly you can hardly see them in the finished kit!
The centre rear wing and wing mirrors have both been CF'd. My first real effort at this and was a bit tricky on the mirrors - a good learning experience though! This is just Tamiya CF, TS 13 clear and a good polish.
I'm pleased with the exhaust. The rear third is scratchbuilt into a twin branch exhaust and I scratchbuilt the mufflers from various thickness ali tubing and a good polish at the end (BMF black chrome to replicate hangers), also my first effort in anger to heat stain an exhaust.
I think it's missing an intercooler in the front grille and could do with a lower front spoiler but overall quite pleased.

Sorry for going on so much, I hope you like the pics.....

Fantastic :sunglasse

I think a lot of us have the same basic kit with the same idea to make it into a street tuner. I know I do.

Hi,

well done, looks great.

What disturbs me a little with these wheels is, that the inner part is a thin etch-part. You should glue 2 or 3 of these together to get the right depth.

Paul..

That is really good. And you've done a great job in converting to street. I've got the same type of thing rolling around in my head, just not done it yet.. I think those wheels look superb.

You seem to be building a lot of street from rally etc.. You're getting to be a dab hand at it. This is perhaps on of your best to date, thumbs up from me.

I love those wheels! Those are the best photo etch wheels I've see around. They suit the car well. Overall its a beautiful model, but the wheels stood out to me in a good way.

Thanks everyone! Great to see some nice feedback.
I've been back into this hobby for 18 months now and this is my favourite completed model yet.
Still plenty of room for improvement but I'm really pleased to get good feedback from guys I respect for their abilities!

Mick, you are right, I have built several tuners on the trot now so my next project is something a little different!
