Hey guys. I just bought a 1999 Venture with 150 000 Kms on it.
Since the beginning, I told the dealership there was something going on with tranny. Often the tranny would slam into gear instead of smooth shifting. Didn't feel right at all. Then the tranny would whine when I went up hills. Also not good.
I took it into tranny guy and he put a code reader on it. Two codes came out.
P-0300 - Random cylinder misfire detected.
p-1811- May adapt & long shifts.
My tranny guy said that because the engine was misfiring, the tranny was compensating by shifting hard. He said fix the misfire and he can sort out the tranny issues.
Talked to a Chevy guy and he told me that the misfire was a common problem. He said a complete tune-up should fix so I did the plugs, wires, pcv, fuel filter and air filter. Misfire still there.
I am taking it back Monday morning.
Question is, what on earth can be causing the misfire? What should be on the look-out for. I am collecting notes and giving them to the mechanic, just to help them out AND save me money. The dealership said that they'd only cover $500 worth of repairs.
Any help/guidance is appreciated!!

Very broad question, bad coil, dirty or bad injector, low fuel pressure and so on. The trans problem may be connected to this, but I think you will find out one of the solenoids is bad in the valve body. BTW, welcome to AF.

Thanks for the reply AND the welcome. Looks like I'll be hanging around these parts for a while.
I realize a great many things could be causing the misfire, I was just hoping that someone else had experienced a co-relation between the misfire code and the tranny code.
With my dealership only offering to cover $500 in repair costs, I don't want to pay mechanics $400 in labor just to find the problem. I'm trying to get as much info together so that they can spend less time "figuring" and more time "fixing"
I'm going in on Monday. I'll come back and post the results when I get them
