ABS Light

I have a 98 Malibu. THe brakes have always had issues. However, I'm replacing the rotors, calipers, and pads. I want everything to be new. However, that wont fix the ABS light. What is this issue? People have been saying its probably the hub or the speed sensor... Anyone else have any ideas?

Whatever it is, what is involved in the replacement? Should I want to put all the brake parts on until I get the other parts?

It depends why you're abs light is on. If it's a speed sensor (like mine) you need to find out which wheel it is and start from there. It could be the wiring coming from the sensor or the sensor itself. The good news is when the car detects a problem with a speed sensor it turns the system off and you've got regular, non abs brakes. This way it won't do something weird based on false readings. The b#### of it is that the speed sensor and the bearing are one in the same. So you either go without ABS or replace a perfectly good wheel bearing to correct the problem. This is, of course, if the problem is a speed sensor.

As far as putting the new parts on first or second: It won't matter if it's one of the back wheels, but if it's one of the front ones the whole mess will come off to get to the bearing, so I would wait.
