Electrical Problems

I was driving tonight and all of a sudden, I lose A/C blower, turn signals, and my transmissions starts shifting very rough but I can still drive (for another 25 miles), have brake lights, head lights. I'm pretty sure it is a fuse or something (relay) but I didn't know if anyone else has had this problem. Besides, it's too dark to look at anything now.

Classic signs of an alternator dying. Even more so if you have idiot lites comming on. The blower motor quitting along with some other electrical problem is a major indicator.

Bet ya $10 it's your alternator!

I remember the night my 2nd alt went out, now mind you I have 156k miles and I tow a lot with a lot of lights, CB radio's, KC Fog/Driving lights, you get the picture....anyhow, the night mine went, I was coming down I-70 just out of the Eisenhower Tunnel on the Continental Divide in Colorado, it was 10 or so at night.

My first gremlin showed by the fan shutting off, followed by the radio, then my dashlights grew dim, front headlight went out, then all of a sudden a couple idiot lights appeared on the dash, two of them being target indicators, i.e. brake light and battery light - classic of a failing alternator.

That damn truck got us all the way to town, fried the battery doing so, but I knew better then to stop or shut it off - not much in those small mountain towns, specially for Isuzu.

Anyhow, yes, your signs are typical of alternator failure, i.e. transmission WILL act strange, radio, blower will refuse to work, etc.

These trucks actually very rarely have *true* actual electrical issues, 9 times out of 10, it's simply lack of voltage - they are voltage hungry machines.

Do NOT purchase just ANY aftermarket alternator or you will be replacing it again in short time - go for the BOSCH or OEM Isuzu.
