stuck ignition key is regally a pain

i have a 99 regal ls that will not release the ignition key until it sits for awhile. i have read the other threads about the BTSI or solenoid problems but this seems different. any ideas?

Welcome to AF.
The delay in removing the key is still a BTSI related problem. It could be the shift interlock in the console. Common if coffee or soda was spilled on the console since the cupholders are located there.
Also, it could be the key release solenoid which is part of the ignition switch assembly, however, they are both separate parts.
