I am having trouble replacing the brake pads on my 2002 Blaser. I have fully compressed the plunger on the calipher but it will still not go over the brake pads and line back up. It appears that the metal plates on the outside of the pads is preventing sufficient clearance. Has anyone had similar problems .. is it the brake pad design? Would appreciate hearing from anyone for help.

Your caliper must be all the way compressed flush before you can install the pads. It sounds to me like it is not compressed in all the way in, or you don't have the correct brake pads for it. try compressing tit in again. DO NOT FORGET TO CLEAN AND GREASE THE SLIDE PINS before putting everything back or your going to have problems later on guaranteed...

Yes, the piston needs to be in so the seals lips (see 2 lips as they fold over as you push them in) are even but don't push them past that - clean the seal with some brake cleaner and a tooth brush before pushing back in. The piston has to fit over the metal bumps on the pads (piston side only as I recall). Make sure the bracket slide metal plates/clips are clean and the pads freely move in them and are firmly against the rotor and then the caliper should drop right over the pads and rotor and bolt it up. Pull those rear slide pins out of the bracket and grease them!!!! These are rears so I would get rebuilt calipers cause that single plastic piston cheapo unit always cocks in the bore after pushing in and then after a hard stop - if you reuse watch for this and binding after a few uses (smoking or dragging rears). I have replaced all my rear calipers when doing brakes cause of this design problem. Fronts are cast and dual and do not have this problem (use metal pistons too).
