98 Eclipse Battery/Alternator Issue

I havnt had any battery problems prior to this. One day, I got in my car and started it up. I hadnt left anything on such as lights or anything, no battery draw, except like the clock on the radio, and the amp, which is connceted to a capacitor and shuts off when the car is off. Anyways, I start the car, and the brake and battery lights are on.

I have a red top optima battery. the stereo system runs off of it too. Since the light has come on, I've noticed no problems at all, except if I have the radio on and I turn the blinker on, the radio shuts off and turns back on again. I figured the alternator is shot or something.

So I'm talking to my neighbor and he wants to see what kind of ferocious beast is under the hood(4 cylinder turbo) anyways I happen to notice out of the corner of my eye a wiring harness connected to hte alternator, and coming off of the wiring harness is a single wire with a small metal bracket on the end, and a screw that is sticking halfway out of the alternator. So out of pure desperation, frustration, and anger, i decide to connect the two. I turn the car on and the lights are still on. I drive it around the neighborhood for about 6-7 minutes and the lights are still on, and the radio still messes up with the blinker. The car still runs fine though, like it always has. Anybody have any thoughts or ideas? Im gonna drive it to work tomorrow to see if ithe alternator will now charge the battery. Any help would be awesome thanks!:)

Sounds like you diagnosed your own problem. If it's not the alternator, start checking for shorts or grounds.
