Coil on plug

Does anyone know how to test to find out if the coil on plug "wire" has gone bad? I can't afford to take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong with it. It is missing slightly, I changed the fuel filter and pump. I'm going to clean the MAF as soon as I find it. Any suggestions?

Have you changed the plugs? Most of the time the coil doesn't go bad, the spark will burn a hole through the boot and short to the head not giving spark to the plug. Look at the affected cylinder to see if there is a burn mark( whitish spot with a black dot in the center) and check the plug.

No, I haven't replaced the plugs yet. I'll check for the whitish spot when I do. Thanks.

W2O,

I just noticed that you are a moderator.

Congratulations!

I do not know for how long now, but it must be rather recent.

Thanks Mod. Appreciate the confidence. It's been about 3 weeks now. Thought I would give it a try.
