A different kind of racing ... assignment for the newspaper.

The city I work in, Reading, PA, hosted a international Bicycle race (actually 3 of them). The newspaper I work for assigned me to do the photography for our Web site.

I am extremely pleased with the photos I took today - especially of the Pro race. I've never photographed Cyclists before. It was an awesome new experience. In the first photo for the pros, you will see the "Pagoda" on top of the mountain ... that is the mountain we do the Pagoda & Duryea Hillclimbs on.

I realize this is not car related (but it is racing ... street racing even!), but I wanted to share with you guys anyway. It was just a cool day.

Thanks guys. It was a really neat day. My legs are killing me today though.
I think I walked close to 8 miles yesterday aroundthe city trying to get our local land marks in the shots and such. ... I wonder how the cyclists legs are feeling :D

There was a police regulated (they followed) bike race by me yesterday morning. The highways have NO shoulders at all and so car traffic was in the left lane and bike traffic was in the right lane. Usually, the non-policed bike events are a real bitch because the bikers take up the road. One time not long ago, my wife went to pass some bikers, and as most people do, swung far out in the oncoming lane so I grabbed the wheel out of instinct to pull the car back because an oncoming car was hauling ass towards us. She screamed at me and told me to never grab the wheel. However, I'm happy with the outcome because head collision death just doesn't seem very nice. Anyway, it would be awesome if police would monitor those bikers on single lane highways out in the sticks with NO shoulders. But they usually don't.
