lights on and off.....

I have a 1999 JGC Limited. I have the "auto" position on the headlight switch and have it set there all the time.

Sometimes they (parking lights, headlights, fog lights) will blink on and off and sometimes they will come on and stay on for a bit. It doesn't seem to matter if the alarm is activated or not or if the doors or locked/unlocked. It looks like it thinks its night time and tries to turn the lights on for the darkness, but doesn't make sense why it would do it without any keys in the ignition at all.

I found another thread on here when I searched for "blinking lights" from 2004 and it suggested batt/alt problem maybe and had no resolution to it. My battery is not even a year old and my alt. is about 7 months old, so I dont think those are a problem.

Not for sure where to go from here. Has anyone run into this problem before?

Well, youve got the 99-04 body style, and Ive got the 93-98 bodystyle. But there is another thread similar to this about how the interior lights wouldnt turn off. This is not the same, but its similar. So my advice to you is to:

1) Open the fuse panal and find the fuse that corresponds to the headlights. Check it to see that it isnt either corroded/rusted or broken. Clean it off with a clean (lint-free if you have one) cloth just to be sure.

2) Try the headlights again. If they still do that wierd thing you were talking about, then try replacing the fuse with a new one, or a better one at least.

3) If it still doesnt fix the problem, I would say check the actual headlights and make sure the wires arent crossed or frayed. If the rubber coating on the wires (that goes to the back of the headlight) is scratched or completely gone in some areas, check to see if it isnt touching any metal that could interfere with the circuit the wire forms with the battery. Because if bare wire is touching metal, it could be bouncing around (as the car moves) and cause the wire to move between the spot its supposed to touch and empty space and bouncing back again.

4) Perhaps the lightbulbs in the headlight arent screwed in tight enough and are only touching the contact some of the time.

So I'm just going on what I know about electricity and all, but I think that this could help. Let me know if any of this does work.

Do you have a remote starter installed?
when the lights come on does the jeep start?

The reason I ask, I have a remote starter on my 94 ZJ and if the battery falls below 11 volts the remote starter will automatically start the vehicle to recharge the battery.
